We are a budding social enterprise. We teach sound and music technology and production to school kids in the Western Cape.
We solve the problem of a lack of technology in schools with regards to the creative and technical arts. It also solves the problem of giving the naughty kids something constructive to do and in our community projects, allows the kids to engage in something safe, off the streets. We are a Christian organisation but we do not force kids to do anything they do not want to do. We respect all faiths. We teach a few Muslim and non-Christian kids too and they love it.
We have been in operations since July 2016.
We teach :
How to make music on computers/ipads
Creation of podcasts
Audio theory and editing
Digital Dj
Media production
Sound 4 You promotes excellence and confidence in young learners. We believe that sound is a powerful medium in self-discovery and also in unlocking potential.
With roughly 30 years collective experience in digital media, broadcast, post production, education and music, our 2 directors are very capable and excited daily about Sound 4 You.
We currently teach for profit at the following schools:
St Josephs Marist Brothers
Emmanual Christian Academy
Christian Brothers College Parklands
International School of Cape Town
We currently teach not for profit at these schools:
Hawston High School
Hawstone community (teaching disabled adults to be trained as teachers in the community)
Cravenby High School
We use money from Sound 4 You business and other profit-generating operations to fund the teaching/transport/gear to the non-profit schools.
We have taught at the following organisations not for profit:
Rainbow of Hope Childrens Home
ICAN Centre Elsies River
We are starting to teach at 2 new schools in January 2019 too.
We are starting a new Sound 4 You not for profit community project in Hanover Park in 2019 too.
We also believe in bringing the kids from different backgrounds and schools together. We have a UCT Radio training which we have once a year for Youth Day our kids go on air and learn to be radio and also assist with shows throughout the year. They get to spend time with the other kids from other schools. We also have a yearly event for the kids from all over Cape Town.
We also teach within schools curriculum and plan for further impact and expansion within government spheres too to help our country grow.

How will you use the R100k prize in your business?

We will use the money to buy all the equipment we need to teach at the schools. We do have equipment but we don’t have enough for expansion and we are afraid if we do not penetrate the market now, that it will be too late.

We have been pioneers but somebody else could easily access the market at this stage looking at our model.

iPads/Mixers/Keyboards/Controllers would be what we buy. We need enough equipment to be able to teach at 2-3 schools simultaneously. So, we want to employ at least 2 student teachers to assist us. We have 1 qualified sound engineer already, who has been working with us for a year and we would like to expand further to start generating more income and making a bigger mark on the Western Cape as the forerunner in Audio Tech education.

We believe we can make this money work positively for profit and for future community projects.
